Why is the estimate in grams, not volume?
Because accuracy is critical. Body filler is sold by weight (kg or lbs) and, most importantly, mixed with hardener using a precise weight ratio (typically 2-3% hardener to filler). Measuring by weight with a simple kitchen scale is the only way to guarantee a correct chemical reaction. A volume estimate is just a guess; a weight estimate is a formula.
What happens if I add too much or too little hardener?
This is the most common mistake. Too much hardener will cause the filler to cure too quickly, becoming brittle and prone to cracking. It can also cause "bleed-through," where the peroxide in the hardener discolors the paint on top. Too little hardener will result in a soft, sticky patch that never fully cures and cannot be sanded.
What's the difference between filler types?
Standard (Lightweight) Filler: Your go-to for most dents and dings. Easy to spread and sand.
Fiberglass Reinforced Filler: Contains short strands of fiberglass for extra strength. Ideal for bridging small holes or cracks.
