How It Works & FAQ

Understanding the factors that go into a professional paint job.

How is the paint usage calculated?

Our calculator uses a standard industry formula: (Total Area × Number of Coats) ÷ Coverage Rate × (1 + Waste Rate). This gives you a reliable starting point for purchasing your materials.

What is "Paint Coverage per Liter"?

This is the surface area (in square meters) that one liter of your specific paint can cover with a single coat. You can usually find this information on the paint can or its Technical Data Sheet (TDS). It varies significantly between primers, basecoats, and clearcoats.

What is "Waste / Loss Rate"?

Not all paint that leaves the spray gun ends up on the panel. Some is lost to overspray. This loss rate depends on your spray gun type (HVLP/LVMP), settings, and your painting technique. We provide a standard 20% estimate, but you can adjust it based on your experience.
