How It Works & FAQ

Understanding the science behind efficient sanding.

How is the disc usage calculated?

The calculator uses the formula: Total Area × Grit Stages × Consumption Rate. The number of grit stages is determined by your selected "Project Type," reflecting standard industry processes for best results.

What is "Disc Consumption Rate"?

This represents how many sanding discs are typically used per square meter for a single grit stage. A rate of 0.4 means you'd use about 4 discs to sand a 10m² area with P320 grit. This rate is affected by the sanding material (body filler vs. clearcoat), the pressure applied, and whether you are sanding by machine or hand.

Why is the "Grit Sequence" important?

Proper grit sequence is crucial for a flawless finish. Starting with a coarser grit (lower number, e.g., P240) removes material and levels the surface. Each subsequent, finer grit (higher number, e.g., P400, P800) refines the scratches left by the previous one. Skipping grits can leave deep scratches that are visible in the final paintwork.
